Jefferson Community College (JCC) will hold an information session for allied health certification programs clinical medical assistant and dental assisting on Wednesday, January 23 at 6:00 p.m. in Room 6-002, Jules Center (Building 6).

The clinical medical assistant (CMA) program is a 20-week course to prepare students to take the National Healthcareer Association certified clinical medical assistant national examination and begin work in the healthcare field. During the program, students will earn 140 hours of classroom lecture, 160 hours of clinical externship and hands-on lab experience. Classes will be held Tuesday and Thursday evenings, March 19 thru August 8, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the Fort Drum Education Center Annex. An application is required and will be available at the information session at JCC on January 23. Tuition, including textbooks, is $2399. The application deadline is February 14, 2013.

The dental assisting program is a 60-hour course that will familiarize students with all areas of pre-clinical dental assisting and provide training in the professional skills required to function as an assistant in the dental practice. Course topics include, but are not limited to, legal aspects of dentistry; introduction to the dental office and oral anatomy; dental operatory and tooth structure; dental hand pieces and sterilization; and proper patient positioning. Upon completion of the program, students will be prepared to take the Dental Assisting National Board radiology health and safety examination. In addition to entry-level administrative jobs, this course is ideal for students interested in pursuing a future formal dental hygienist program. Classes will be held Monday and Wednesday evenings, April 15 thru June 12, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the Fort Drum Education Center Annex. Although an application is not required, space is limited and open to the first twenty people who register. Tuition, including textbooks, is $1199.

Traditional financial aid is not applicable to the allied health certification programs. For more information, attend the information session on January 23 at JCC or call the Continuing Education Division at 315-786-2233.

The clinical medical assistant and dental assisting programs are made possible through a partnership between JCC and Condensed Curriculum International who has supported healthcare training and education programs since 1993.
