Families on Fort Drum and the North Country community are invited to Outdoor Adventure Day to learn about the outdoors and outdoor recreation.Return to event list.
Outdoor Adventure Day will be held in and around the Natural Resources Permit Building (Bldg. S-2509) located off Route 26, between Great Bend and Wheeler Sack Army Airfield.
Parking for the event will be off of Munn’s Corner Rd. leading to Wheeler-Sack Army Airfield.
Staff from Fort Drum’s Environmental Division and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County have partnered to create a free, family-friendly event focusing on live demonstrations and hands-on activities appropriate for adults and children of all ages.
Activities will include fishing, archery, hunting, forestry, trapping, shooting, live animal displays, a climbing wall, outdoor safety and cooking demonstrations, geocaching, arts and crafts, a visit from Smokey Bear, and more. Other event participants include MWR’s Parks and Recreation and McEwen Library as well as the SUNY-ESF Woodsmen’s Team.
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County works throughout the year to bring the Fort Drum community together with the surrounding Northern New York Communities, incorporating the many natural resources and outdoor opportunities for families to enjoy.
This event is outdoors and will take place rain-or-shine. People should come dressed appropriately for the weather. The Carthage American Legion Post 789 will have hot dogs, hamburgers, and chicken barbeque available to purchase. Families may also bring their own food and picnicking is allowed on the grounds.
