The Fort Drum FMWR Soldier and Family Assistance Center to host a Veterans Information Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, 4 October at the Transitional Living Services of Northern New York offices at 482 Black River Parkway, Watertown, NY. This Information Day brings together Federal, State and non-profit organizations in one location to provide a face-to-face interaction between Veterans, their Families and Survivors. Anyone who has served in any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces on Active-duty is considered a Veteran and is eligible to receive benefits.Return to event list.
Recent changes in eligibility for entitlements, educational and health, especially for Gulf War and Vietnam-era Veterans, make dissemination of information on services imperative if we as Americans are to honor our debt to our Veterans and their Families. This is a great opportunity for service members to find out about benefits, entitlements and services available to them in an on-the-spot, one-stop information gathering, rather than relying on phone service or having to travel inconvenient distances.
There are many agencies within the North Country dedicated to supporting Veterans of the present and past conflicts providing information on increased, retroactive benefits to Veterans and their Families. Representatives from both Federal Department of Veterans Affairs and New York State Division of Veterans’ Affairs will be present to help explain benefits and entitlements, both in New York and nation-wide. Information will be available on Traumatic Brian Injury (TBI) and PTSD. The program for Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing for Veterans and the VETS Peer to Peer Outreach Center will be represented.
