Event Description

Literacy of Northern NY Volunteer Tutor Training in Massena
Help an Adult Learn to Read Better or improve English speaking skills!
Basic Reading
Do you love to read? Share that love of reading with an adult who struggles with literacy skills. Our tutor training course will teach you about phonics, word patterns, vocabulary development, reading comprehension and fluency. Once you complete the course, you are matched with one adult who needs help. Tutors and students meet in public places such as libraries for an hour or two each week.
If you love all things multicultural, then working with an ESL learner will be a great experience. Our ESL students have different needs – most need help with speaking and listening skills and some need help with writing. The students are at different levels with most having high-level reading and writing skills.
