Event Description

The National Park Service designated Sackets Harbor as one of the top ten War of 1812 sites in the country. On Friday evening August 1st at 7pm the Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site’s guest speaker Paul Hawke, Chief of the National Park Service American Battlefield Protection Program, will explain how Sackets Harbor received this significant designation and the subsequent archeological survey, toward preservation of this North Country treasure.

Paul’s presentation kicks-off the historic site’s annual War of 1812 Living History Weekend featuring re-enactor demonstrations Saturday all day and Sunday morning, concluding with dedication of a US monument at 12noon.

The talk at the Sackets Battlefield Site’s picnic pavilion and tent off Hill Street is free and open to the public. The Sackets Harbor Historical Society holds a picnic supper preceding Mr. Hawke’s presentation. Reservations for that supper may be made through the Historical Society.
