Kay J. Hillard, 77, of MassenaMassena – Mrs. Kay J. Hillard, 77, of 41 Parker Ave, peacefully passed away Wednesday afternoon, November 14, 2012 at her home after a brief illness. Kay was born September 27, 1935 in Massena, the daughter of Harry and Grace LaClair Apenborn. At the age of 9, she and her family moved to New Jersey, where she graduated from Demarest High School in Hoboken. On January 11, 1964, she married Stephen U. Hillard in Jersey City. Kay was a legal secretary for many years with the Learner and Piermont Law Firm in Jersey City until her retirement and return back to Massena. After returning to Massena, she worked for a time with Attorneys Vincent Kirsch and Michael Almasian. Kay enjoyed doing crossword and Sudoku puzzles, reading, knitting, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Steve; two daughters, Janet Meyers-McWilliams and her husband, Kevin of Port Jervis, NY; and Lisa Hillard of Massena; five grandchildren, Brian, Teresa, Meghan, Brendon, and Matthew, a great grandchild, Kaylee; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her daughter, Lee Meyers-Hoffman in 2009 and three sisters, Joan Apenborn in May 1936 at the age of 5; Doris Ascolese on July 19, 2001 and Elizabeth Riley on January 11, 2005. Friends may call Saturday 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where a prayer service will be held at 8:00 PM with Pastor George Middleton, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Pine Grove Cemetery, Area 2, Massena. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Massena Rescue Squad or Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
