MASSENA – Peacefully in his sleep, Mr. Lucien P. Ayotte, 80, of 276 Roosevelt Road, passed away Tuesday morning, June 17, 2014 at his home.

Lucien was born June 10, 1934 in Massena, the son of the late Lucien J. and Ella Bradshaw Ayotte and attended schools in Massena.  On June 5, 1953, he married Carol J. Weaver at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Joseph Doud, officiating.  Carol predeceased him on January 16, 1979.   In November 1989, he married Edna Oakes in Syracuse.  She predeceased him on October 22, 2010.

Lucien first worked construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway before going to work at General Motors.  After many years of service, he retired as a water treatment operator.  He was active with the United Autoworkers and was once a member of the Massena Moose Lodge #1110.

Lucien is survived by his children, Peter Ayotte of Massena; James Ayotte of Cleveland, Ohio; Robert and Brenda Ayotte of Massena; Catherine Ayotte of Cleveland, Ohio; and Judy Ayotte of Massena; 10 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.  He is also survived by two sisters, Ivan and Margaret “Peggy” Major of Massena and Malcolm and Mary Ann Harrison of Red Lyon, PA; his brother, William and Sheila Massena; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wives, he was predeceased by two daughters, JoAnn Leaf on January 5, 1988 and Margaret A. Ryken on December 13, 2012; and a brother, Michael Ayotte on December 15, 1997.

As per his wishes, services will be held privately at the convenience of the family in Calvary Cemetery, Massena.

Memorial Contributions may be made in his memory to the Massena Humane Society or the Massena Dialysis Center.
