Albert J. Romano, 68, of Watertown, passed away Friday morning surrounded by his loving family while under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County.

Born November 21, 1944 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Alfred and Cecilia Romano.

He attended Lafayette High School in New York City, graduating in 1962. In 1963 he enlisted in the United State Army where he served with the 304th Signal Battalion. He completed his basic training at Fort Dix, AIT training at Camp Gordon, GA, and a tour in Korea where he received the Army's good conduct ribbon.

He was honorably discharged in 1966 while stationed at what was then called Camp Drum; known now as Fort Drum.

Upon leaving the military he moved back to Brooklyn, NY where he opened a dog grooming shop. He returned to Watertown, NY where he married Sally A. Pattison on October 4, 1966. Mr. Romano attended Jefferson Community College where he received an associate's degree in liberal arts in 1969.

Surviving besides his wife Sally are two children, Albert J. Romano, Jr. and James A. Romano, as well as many extended family members.

Two brothers, Michael and Joseph, died before him.

His favorite past times were fishing, reading, building models and wooden string instruments.  Albert was a member of the Watertown American Legion Post 61 where he served as an officer and Sergeant of Arms.

The funeral will be Monday, August 19, 10:00 am at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, with military burial following at Brookside Cemetery. Calling hours are going to be from 7 pm - 9 pm on Sunday, August 18 at the funeral home.
