Alden F. Corbett, 84 of WatertownAlden F. "Luke" Corbett, 84, 207 Wyoming Ave, passed away Friday May 4, 2012 at Samaritan Medical Center. Mr. Corbett was born December 28, 1927 in Watertown a son of William and Edith Manigold Corbett. In 1945 entered the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946. He then completed his high school education and graduated from Watertown High School in 1947. On September 3, 1949 he married Daphne Pearce at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church with Reverend James Francoeur officiating. Mr. Corbett attended the St Lawrence University extension program in Watertown before he served in the Watertown Police Department from 1951 until 1957. In 1957 he became a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1987. Mr. Corbett was a member of the VFW #1400, a life member of the American Legion Post #61; where he served as past Post Commander, past Jefferson County Commander, past 5th District Commander and Law & Order Chairman for thirty nine years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, crossword puzzles and spending time with his family at their cottage in Chaumont.www.dlcalarco.com. Surviving besides his wife are a son and daughter in law Steven and Sharon, Copenhagen, two daughters and their husbands Virginia and Gary Avery, Baldwinsville, Dawn and Ron Burns, Copenhagen, five grandchildren who always knew him as ‘pop’, Heather Cronk and Doug Neu, Brett Avery, Jennifer Burns, Lindsey Corbett and Derek Corbett, two great grandchildren Christian Cronk and Lily Neu, several nieces and nephews. Three brothers Daniel, Edward, Jack and three sisters, Virginia Kidwell, Natalie Corbett and Myrtle Johnson died before him. Calling hours will be Tuesday for 4-7pm at the D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. A prayer service will be held Wednesday at 9:15 am at the funeral home followed by a 10 am funeral mass at Holy Family Church with Reverend Steven Murray officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery with military honors.
