Watertown - Allan C. Bennett, 78, of 27 Maywood Terrace, passed Saturday evening, Oct. 26, at Hospice of Jefferson County Residence at the Ellis farm, Watertown.

Born on July 13, 1935 in Fisher’s Landing, NY, son of Henry and Irene Zeller Bennett, he graduated from WHS.

Following school he entered the U.S. Marines and was active from 1951 to 1953.  He then served in the Marine Reserves from 1953 to 1957.

He married Iva Cooley on April 8, 1966 in Brewerton, NY.  She passed December 18, 2008.

Mr. Bennett worked as a laborer on farms throughout NNY, At NY AirBrake, and volunteered at the Salvation Army for eight years.

He was an Eagle Scout and at the age of 16 he won the Golden Glove for boxing.  He enjoyed Bingo, fishing and scrapping for metal.

Among his survivors are his wife, Rosalie Bennett, Watertown; three sons, Frank Cooley and his companion, Linda Blair, Liverpool, Charles Bennett, Watertown, Gary Bennett, Watertown; two daughters and two sons in law, Debbie and Joseph Varricchio, Maine, Georgia and James Bishop, Watertown; a stepson, Corey Marshall, Watertown; two sisters, Georgia Gould, NC, Ruth Perkins, Syracuse; 10 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Two brothers, William and George Bennett died before him.

A graveside service will 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct 31 at the N. Watertown Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Maywood Terrace Community Center from Noon to 4 p.m.

Donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
