Lowville - Andre P. Birchenough, 82, a Watson resident, died at his home Tuesday morning, March 18, under the care of his family and Lewis County Hospice.
Andre worked for Payne-Jones for a few years after high school and then purchased Dorothy’s parents farm on Route 26, Lowville and operated it for 28 years. Andy was also a carpenter who loved a challenge, the bigger the better. He made additions to his barns and built two houses, one on Sharp Street in Lowville and his present home in Watson.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; a daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Kip Young of Chateaugay and their children, Seth and Rachael ; three sons and daughters-in-law, Stanley and Donna of Homer and their children, Adam, Lucas, Samantha, Joel, Tonya, David, and Christopher; Michael and Sandra of Lowville and their daughters, Hannah and Kylee; Joseph and Patricia of High Bridge, NJ and their sons, Clayton and Garret; two great-granddaughters Callista and Lydia; his sister, Theresa Brown of Sand Pond; and his brother, Maurice “Garnet” Birchenough of Lowville.
Mr. Birchenough was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, past president of Lowville Rural Fire Association, he belonged to Northern New York Farmers Marketing Co-op, Life member of the Lowville B.P.O.E. Lodge # 1605, the Fairchild Hunting Club and Upper Balsam Flats Hunting Club.
As a young man, Andre enjoyed rabbit hunting, fishing and loved the woods. In later years, he spent his time logging and also hunting deer, coons and especially coyotes. Andre and Dorothy together, with their circle of friends, had great fun going to polka weekends, despite the fact that Andre always commented that he “hated fun."

A Mass of Christian burial will be said at St. Peter's Catholic Church on Friday, March 21 at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Christopher Carrara, Pastor, officiating. Spring burial will be in Lowville Rural Cemetery. Calling hours for family and friends will be Thursday, March 20 at the Sundquist Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m.
