Akwesasne – With his fellow musicians jamming in the side yard, Andrew Vernon White, 75, of 370 McGee Road, peacefully passed away Wednesday afternoon, October 2, 2013 with his family and friends by his side.

Andy was born January 1, 1938, at the family home in Akwesasne, NY, son of the late Thomas and Elsie Terrance White. He attended schools in Hogansburg, St. Regis, and in Massena. Andy entered the US Army on September 20, 1961, serving until his honorable discharge on September 6, 1963.

On December 2, 1961, Andy married Monica Terrance, at the St. Regis Catholic Church, with Father George White officiating.

He was an Ironworker, member of the Local #440, retiring at age 62.  Andy was a member of the American Legion Post #1479, the Amvets Gerald R. Roy Post #4, St. Regis Mohawk Seniors Citizens and various Fiddlers Associations.

Andy was also a member of the Hogansburg Assembly of God. Andy had a great joy for playing music and playing the guitar as he was also one of the founding members of the Thundertones.

Andy is survived by his wife, Monica; there children, Cynthia M. White, of Six Nations, Vernon Andrew and Belinda White, of Akwesasne, and Nicole and James McDonald of Akwesasne; five grandchildren, Vanna, Viktoria, Jesse, Megan and Teresa; two chosen daughters, Veronica Marie Adams, who is also his goddaughter; and Samantha Thompson; a chosen son, Terry Terrance; and his brother John “Bullets” and Gladys White of Akwesasne, NY.

He was predeceased by a brother, James “Spike” White, on July 22, 1988.

Friends may call Friday, 12:00-5:00 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, NY, where a funeral service celebrating Andy’s life will follow at 5:00 PM, with traditional words spoken by Lonnie Thompson and Pastor Arthur Brandt officiating. Cremation will follow.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to St. Regis Mohawk Senior Citizens, or to Hospice of the North Country.
