Waddington - Arden "Dale" Putney, 88, passed away at his home Thursday (Feb 13, 2014) surrounded by his loving family and under the support of Hospice.
Family and friends may call on Sunday (Feb 16, 2014) at the Phillips Memorial Home, Waddington from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M.
A funeral service for Dale will be held Monday (Feb 17, 2014) afternoon at 2:00 P.M. at the Waddington United Methodist Church, with Rev. David C. Piatt officiating.
Burial will take place in the family plot at New Brookside Cemetery, Waddington immediately following the service.
Arden "Dale" Putney was born in Lisbon, NY to the late Leslie G. and Anna (Clark) Putney on June 18, 1925. He attended The Country School and then George Hall Trade School. He married the love of his life, Emily Short, on August 14, 1946 in the Waddington United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years and their children, Howard P. and fiance Kathy Dupray of Rensselaer Falls, NY, Leonard C. and Valerie of Norfolk, David L. and Tracey of Waddington, and a daughter in-law, Nancy May Putney Ferency and husband David of Waddington. Also surviving Dale is a sister, Beverly Farrell of Sadieville, KY. Dale and Emily have 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Dale was predeceased by their son Lawrence Dale Putney, and brothers Donald, Delmer, Calvin, Mark, and Lowell Putney.
Dale worked on the family farm and various other farms in the Lisbon area when growing up. He then purchased his own milk truck and hauled milk to the Waddington Milk Factory. He then became employed by the Waddington Milk Factory where he was the shop steward for Local 687 Teamsters.
He then went to work on the St. Lawrence Seaway for the Waddington Constructors on the Waddington Job, where he was also the shop steward for the Teamsters. After the Seaway he worked briefly for Alcoa, and then went to work for the New York Power Authority in 1959 retiring after 30 years of service as a heavy equipment operator in the line department.
Dale and Emily owned a farm in Waddington where he enjoyed raising cattle and many horses. He also enjoyed his various tractors with a love for John Deere. He was an avid hunter, and enjoyed his hunting camp and summer camp in Hopkinton.
Dale and Emily also enjoyed spending many winters at their home in Clermont, FL. where he enjoyed his fruit trees. Dale spent time tending to his garden and enjoyed boating and fishing on the St. Lawrence River. Dale was a member of the Waddington United Methodist Church and the Waddington Volunteer Fire Department (retired).
Among Dale's many achievements, of which his wife was the greatest, he was a wonderful father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend. His wonderful smile and willingness to help will be greatly missed.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Waddington United Methodist Church, Hospice, or the Waddington Volunteer Fire Department.
