Barbara A. Burns,80, Foster Park Road, Dexter, formerly of Black River, passed away  May 1, 2014 at Summit Village.

Mrs. Burns was born December 27, 1933, in Watertown a daughter of Paul and Mary Radigan Monnat. She graduated from Black River High School. On July 16, 1955, she married John W. ‘Jack’ Burns at St. Paul’s Catholic Church with Reverend Fix officiating.

Mrs. Burns was employed at The Globe Store before her marriage. In the 1970’s she worked with her brother William Monnat at the Black River Garden Center until opening the Enchanted Gift Shop in the Paddock Arcade which closed in 1989.  After retiring she worked part time at Black River Elementary School as a teachers aid. She was a very devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Surviving are three sons and a daughter in law; Timothy J., Watertown, Patrick J., Dexter and Peter L. and Darcy, Adams Center, three daughters and two sons in law; Lorie B. and Steve Ames, Black River, Kathleen B.. and Michael Branski, Black River and Elizabeth A., Syracuse, a brother William J. Monnat, a sister and her husband Mary and Martin Rasinski, Connecticut, a sister in law; Jan Monnat, Pulaski, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her husband Jack, a brother Richard Monnat and a sister Joan Cole.

There will be no calling hours. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, May, 10 at 11am at Holy Family Church with Reverend Steven Murray officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Black River Cemetery, Contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105-3678.
