Mrs. Betty Lou Hayes, age 82, of LaFargeville, passed away Tuesday at the River-Ledge Nursing Home in Ogdensburg. A graveside service will take place at 11am on Saturday February 16 at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Clayton.

Betty was born January 7, 1931, in Theresa the daughter of Elmer Halladay and Beulah Meicht. She graduated from Theresa High School and later JCC as a Nurse’s Aide.

She married James Hayes, who passed away in 1991.

Betty worked for LaFargeville High School as a Monitor for several years and then at Samaritan Keep Home as a Nurse’s Aide.

Surviving are four children, Dale Hayes of North Carolina, Gail “Sissy” (Stephen) Nichols of North Carolina, Jaime (Carl) Hamilton of North Carolina and Patricia Hayes LaRue and her companion Raymond Stephenson of LaFargeville; two brothers, Charles (Louise) Halladay of Oxbow and Gary (Marion) Halladay of Connecticut; two sisters, Shirley (Ron) Collura of Rochester and June Gilbert of Ogdensburg; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Maureen McGowan, and a daughter-in-law Elizabeth Hayes, died before her.
