Brian Patrick Cromie, a resident of Massena NY, died on June 30, 2013, in a rafting accident on the Hudson River in Lake Luzerne NY.
Born in San Jose, CA on October 6, 1970, he was the son of Patrick Cromie & wife Cynthia of Massena, NY and Sharon Bosford & husband Terry Shatraw of Corinth, NY.
He is survived by his parents and his three daughters, Caroline Cromie, Sabella Cromie and Ainsley Cromie of Massena, his sisters, Heather Green, MD of Union KY and Molly Phelix of Massena. He is also survived by his grandparents, Paul and Vivian Kruger, as well as his companion, Krista Vahey Marcello of Massena and her two sons, Ethan Marcello and Joseph Marcello. He is also survived by his uncles, Michael Bosford, Paul Kruger, Jr. and William J. Cromie MD, his cousins Greg and Dan Kruger, and Daniel Cromie, Clare O’Toole, Virginia Cromie and William Cromie, Jr., and his lifelong friend, Bill Whalen.
Brian was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, William & Frances Cromie and his cousin Jack Cromie.
Brian attended Sacred Heart & Massena Central Schools and graduated cum laude from Valley Forge Military Academy, with the rank of Battalion Sergeant Major, tenth in his class. Brian was class President, Captain of the lacrosse team & was chosen for All Northern in Varsity football in the Philadelphia PA conference area. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Hygiene/Environmental Toxicology from Clarkson University, where he also played varsity lacrosse. He worked as a Safety and Occupational Health Manager for the St. Lawrence Seaway.
He coached girls’ youth soccer and lacrosse.teams. He was recently inducted into the Elks.
Brian loved outdoor adventure, he was enthusiastic and active in hunting, fishing, boating, motorcycling, skiing, and snowmobiling. Brian competed in the 90-mile Adirondack Canoe Classic twice, the Warrior Dash and most recently the Spartan Race.
Brian was a wonderful father and family man who loved being with his daughters, his many nieces and nephews, and his large extended family. Brian was a big man with a big and generous heart who radiated a quiet, calm, warm and cheerful goodness wherever he was.
A marvelous cook and a wonderful singer, Brian Cromie made his corner of the world a beautiful place to be.
Friends may call Friday, July 12, 2013 from 4-8 pm at the Donaldson Funeral Home, 100 N. Main Street, Massena. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating his life will be held Saturday, July 13, 2013, 11:00 AM at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Donald J. Manfred, celebrating. Interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, those who want to honor Brian’s memory are invited to make a donation to the Massena Elks Club.
