Bruce S. Roes, 61, of Lowville

Bruce S. Roes, 61, passed away on November 21, 2013, in his home on the East Road in Lowville.

Bruce was born on February 16, 1952, in Lowville, the son of Edward and Bertha Roes, of Roes Farms. He graduated from Lowville Academy in 1970, where he enjoyed sports, best of all wrestling.

He graduated from Goshen College, in Goshen , Indiana in 1974 with a Bachelor’s degree in math.  He married Cheryl Lehman in 1974 and helped her raise her two children, Judy and Jeff. They later divorced.

Bruce worked on the family farm for many years, then worked for Herb and Merle Yancey Combining. He was also a substitute teacher for Beaver River School, and a member of the Elk’s Lodge.

Bruce enjoyed working with wood, making furniture and most of all clocks. He would give the clocks to most of his nieces and nephews as wedding gifts. He loved spending time with family, especially gatherings at his home for chicken bar-b-ques. He had his secret recipe for chicken marinade.

He also had fun teaching some of the visiting family members the art of target shooting. He would often times tell how he would sit patiently by his upstairs bedroom window for a certain woodchuck to come out of his den, for target practice. Bruce will be missed for his warm spirit and ability to have fun.

Bruce is survived by his mother, Bertha Roes of Sarasota, Florida; his older brother, Richard and spouse Gail Of Lowville/Sarasota, and their children Noelle {Todd} Haney, Jennifer Roes, and Christopher {Crystal} Roes.

He is also survived by his sisters, Cherie Paulson of Salt Lake City, Utah and her children Lance {Trinity} Paulson, Jr., and Heidi {Zach}Smith; and Marilyn Marshall and spouse Bob of Bradenton, Florida, and their children Melissa, Robby and Kevin; also survived by younger brother Arthur Roes of Sarasota, Florida, and spouse Lynda and their children Tonya Haddock, Amy, Jimmy and Nick Roes; step-daughter Judy Lehman and grandchildren Riley and Cade Aschenbrenner; 10 great nieces and great nephews.

Bruce was preceded in death by his father, Edward Roes, in 1987.

A special thank you to Noelle and Todd for all the love, support and companionship for Bruce, in transporting to hospitals or Dr. appointments.  Bruce loved being included in their family and adored their little girls, Linnea and Cori.

We will miss you Bruce, but know you are with Dad up above and free of pain.  We love you.

A memorial service is planned for a later date, at the convenience of the family.  Donations can be made to the Humane Society.
