Carol June Montroy, 93, of Carthage

CARTHAGE -- Our beloved mother Carol June Montroy, 93, passed away Tuesday April 15th in Carthage, New York.

Carol was born in Ogdensburg, New York on June 9, 1920. She was the daughter of Eldric and Clara Jane Graham Boismenu and step-daughter of Katherine Boismenu.

She grew up in Ogdensburg, N.Y. and attended St. Mary's Academy. For several years she worked as a photography color assistant at Rasbacks Photography. On March 28, 1943 she married Richard James Montroy of Ogdensburg at Notre Dame Church with Rev. A.D. Charbonneau officiating.

In 1947 she moved to the Ogdensburg Lighthouse, which had been vacant for many years. One of her proudest accomplishments was the self-published memoir she wrote about her experiences at the lighthouse as a young married couple. She wrote this book when she was 86 years old. The book was called Lighthouse Keeping.

She traveled all over the world with her husband and family in various army military assignments. She worked extensively with the Officers Wives Club at Fort Drum. She and Dick eventually retired in 1968 in Carthage, N.Y.

Her interests were genealogy, reading, knitting, difficult cross word puzzles, old movies, her children and grandchildren. She was a devoted and generous mother and wife having been a care-giver to Dick for 15 years after he suffered a serious stroke.

Survivors include her three children, Carol A. Moore and her companion David Wilder Watertown; Roberta and Stanley Buzzell, Carthage; Peter and Charlene Montroy, Lowville; grandchildren; Christopher, Alexandra, Nicholas, Mark, Peter, and Patrick and six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edwin Boismenu, Buffalo; Ronald and Beverly Boismenu, Ogdensburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard; sister, Virginia Saunders; brothers, Gerald Boismenu; Eldric Boismenu; daughter-in-law Doris Montroy and her parents.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Hillside Cemetery, Champion. Arrangements are being made for a private family service at the Scherer Funeral Home, located at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage, N.Y.
