Deferiet - Christopher J. Kamide, 48, of the Jackson II Road, died Tuesday, April 16, 2013, in the VA Medical Center, Syracuse.
Chris was born in Carthage on November 19, 1964, the son of the late Faye T. and Leona C. Shatraw Kamide.
He attended Augustinian Academy and graduated from Carthage Central in 1982. He attended JCC, SUNY ESF and Utica College. He received his bachelor’s degree in Paper Science Engineering and his Masters in Education.
He married the former Sharon M. Snyder on January 17, 1987 at St. James Church in Carthage.
Chris enlisted in the Army National Guard and later graduated from Officer Candidate School. He joined the Army Reserves and was activated during Operation Iraqi Freedom serving in Kuwait in 2004-2005. He later served two tours at the Pentagon and two tours at Fort Bragg, NC, retiring in August of 200.
He was a quality control manager at several paper mills in the area including Champion International, James River, Knowlton Brothers and Lyons Falls.
He was member and referee of the IAABO Board # 59 of Watertown for nearly 25 years, both college and high school levels, a member of St. James Church, American Legion Post # 789, Knights of Columbus Council # 291 and was the Inner Guard for BPOE Lodge # 1762 of Carthage.
He was a former member of the Carthage Central School Board.
He is survived by his wife Sharon M. of Deferiet, two daughters: Gabrielle L. Kamide of Syracuse and Alyssa N. Kamide of Deferiet, a son: Christopher J. Kamide II of Watertown, four brothers and their spouses: David S. Kamide and fiancée Lisa Gerber of West Carthage, Joseph N. and Jan Kamide of Herndon, VA, Charles B. and Diane Kamide of Liverpool and John L. and Brenda Kamide of Watertown, several Aunts, Uncles and cousins. A brother, Andrew Kamide died in infancy.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:30 AM at St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. George F. Maroun, Pastor officiating. Burial with military honors will be in St. James Cemetery.
Calling hours at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home will be on Thursday from 4-7pm. The Elks will conduct a memorial service at 6:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Carthage Elks Shoe Party.
