Clarence R. Widrick, 84, of Lowville


Lowville – Clarence R. Widrick, 84, of North State Street, died Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Dawn Widrick, under the care of his family and Lewis County Hospice.

The funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Naumburg Mennonite Church with Titus Mast, Pastor, Myron Roggie, Pastor, and Elmer Moser, Pastor officiating. Burial will be in the Naumburg Mennonite Cemetery.

Calling hours are from 6 – 8 p.m. on Monday, April 1, 2013 at the church.

He is survived by nine children and their spouses, Jane W. Simpson of Spencerport, NY; Roger Widrick of Sarasota, FL; Elaine and Jerry Clay of Dakota, IL; Dale and Laurie Widrick of Sarasota, FL; Irene and Glendon Roggie of Lowville; Keith and Linda Widrick of Sarasota, FL; Mark and Kathy Widrick of Copenhagen; Luke and Michele Widrick of Glenfield; Paul and Dawn Widrick of Copenhagen; five brothers and three sisters-in-law, Donald Widrick of Castorland; Herbert Widrick of Carthage; Darius and Mary Widrick of Castorland; Duane and Georgianna Widrick of Castorland; Clyde and Janie Widrick of Castorland; a sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and John Frese of Clayton; 17 grandchildren, one great-grandson, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is predeceased by his wife Beulah, who died May 31, 2012.

Mr. Widrick was born on the family homestead in Naumburg, NY on April 20, 1928, a son of the late Daniel and Rose Martin Widrick.  He attended country school in Naumburg and Beaver Falls School.

On May 3, 1951, he married Beulah Yancey at the Lowville Mennonite Church, with Rev. Lloyd Boshart, officiating. Together with his wife, the couple owned and operated a dairy farm on Route 12 in Lowville, and later on the Cobb Road in Copenhagen. Upon their retirement, the couple moved to Lowville. The dairy farm is now owned and operated by their son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Dawn Widrick.

Mr. Widrick was a member of Naumburg Mennonite Church.

Clarence had a good work ethic. He was a hunter and a woodsman, enjoying time working in the woods, cutting firewood and logging.  As a herdsman he enjoyed caring for the animals, and as a beekeeper he enjoyed sharing the honey with family and friends. Clarence enjoyed growing potatoes and gardening..

He was a great storyteller, and especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
