Daniel H. Hulse III, 82, of MassenaMassena – Mr. Daniel H. Hulse, III, passed away Saturday evening, January 26, 2012 at the St. Regis Nursing Home, where he had been a patient for the past several days. Daniel was born on August 4, 1930 in Massena, the son of the late LeRoy and Mayfred (Endersbee) Hulse. He graduated from Massena High School in 1950. After graduating, he enlisted in the US Marines and served for nine years including a period of time in Korea during the war as a radio operator. After he was honorably discharged in May 1959, he ran an Esso gas station in Massena with his brother. In 1963, he joined the US Postal Service as a letter carrier where he worked for 26 years retiring in 1990. Since then he has been enjoying his retirement. He enjoyed camping, traveling, working around the yard, going to the casino at Foxwoods and watching sports on television especially his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marlene (Brownell) Hulse, who he married on August 14, 1954 at the First United Methodist Church in Massena with Rev. William O. Thomas, officiating; a son, Daniel, a science teacher at JW Leary Junior High in Massena; and two daughters, Karen, a medical technologist at Mass General Hosptial in Boston, and Donna, a consultant at Boston Financial in Quincy, MA. He is also survived by his brother, Frederick and Kathleen Hulse of Brasher; an aunt, Elbertie Thornhill of Greensboro, NC; his brother-in-law, Winston and Janet Brownell of Massena; and several nieces and nephews. Daniel was predeceased by his sister, Barbara A. Hulse in 2011. A memorial service will be held at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena on Wednesday 3:00 PM. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 PM until the time of the service. Burial will be held in the spring in Pine Grove Cemetery, Massena.
