David E. Running, Sr., 75, of RedwoodDavid E. Running, Sr., 75, of Stine Road, Redwood, NY, died Wednesday, January 23 at River Hospital, Alexandria Bay. David was born on November 12, 1937 in Alexandria Bay, the son of George S. and Florence VanTassel Running. He graduated from Alexandria Central School and enrolled in the United States Army, serving from 1955-1957. He married Geneva J. Burgess in Spartansburg, SC on June 4, 1956. He was a blaster for various road construction companies throughout New York State. David was a member of the Alexandria Bay Masonic Lodge 297, the Redwood American Legion, a Republican Committeeman for Jefferson County for over 30 years, and a long-time member of the Redwood Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. David is survived by his wife, Geneva; two sons, David E. Jr. (Isabella), Rodman, NY and Daniel (Cindy), Theresa, NY; two daughters, Debra F. (Michael) Montondo, Redwood, and Mary (Greg) Wills, Redwood; a daughter-in-law, Carol A. Running, Philadelphia, NY; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A granddaughter, Mary Ann Lindsey Running, three brothers, Merrill (Web), Gerard, and Leon, and two sisters, Isabel Sibley and Luella Bratz, predeceased him. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 27 from 5-8 pm at Costello Funeral Home, Alexandria Bay. The funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 am at the Redwood Methodist Church, with Frederica Webb officiating. Burial will follow in Barnes Settlement Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in David’s name to the Redwood Fire & Rescue Squad or the Redwood Methodist Church.
