David McKnight was born in Chase Mills NY to the late David H. McKnight and Hazel Safford McKnight on July 7, 1930. David graduated from Madrid High School and attended SUNY Canton, returning to the family farm due to his father’s illness.

David married Ester Lorenzoni on December 26, 1954, a marriage that lasted almost 59 years. They established a farm in Hopkinton NY where they raised their family. David was a volunteer for the Hopkinton fire department for 20 years.

He was a past chairman of the Agricultural Commission Cooperative Extension. David served for 25 years on the Parishville-Hopkinton Central School board. He was on the advisory board of Niagara Mohawk and he was a past chairman and trustee for the Hopkinton Congregational Church for 40 years.

David could be found at his children’s ball games and school activities. He played softball with the fire department and was on a bowling league. He loved to enjoy what he considered the beautiful land around him by taking his family on drives, riding snowmobiles or four-wheelers, canoeing on the river or going to visit family and friends.

The family will receive visitors on Thursday, October 10 at the Seymour Funeral Home from 2–4 pm and 7–9 pm. A memorial service will be held at the Hopkinton Congregational Church at 11 am on Friday, October 11, 2013. Pastor Scott Daby will be officiating.

A reception at the town hall will follow. The internment will be at the family’s discretion.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in David’s memory to the Hopkinton Fire Department or the Parishville Fire Department and Rescue Squad or a charity of your choosing. Arrangements are being handled by Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam.
