Donald W. Sheridan, Longtime Watertown Businessman
Donald W. Sheridan, beloved husband, brother, father, and grandfather, passed away at his son’s home from leukemia.
He is survived by his wife, Judith; two sisters, Patricia Walters and Mary Durkin; a daughter, Christine; two sons, Timothy and Stephen and three grandsons.
Mr. Sheridan grew up in Buffalo, NY, where he attended Canisius College and earned a degree in Business Administration.
He pursued a career in computer analysis and design, beginning with the Internal Revenue System, followed by Electronic Data Systems in Washington, DC. While at EDS he traveled extensively supporting financial/computer projects at major East Coast corporations. He worked for First National Bank of Baltimore as VP of software development, successfully implementing the areas first ATMs.
When moving to Northern New York, Don joined CREG Systems. There he worked to provide computer services for the newly created New York Casualty Insurance Co. and other North Country clients. In 1982 he formed his own company becoming financial/computer consultant to various North Country businesses in the next twenty years.
In 2002, Don was recruited out of retirement by the Watertown Eye Center to act as business manager for the growing ophthalmology practice.
Mr. Sheridan served the local community in a number of capacities. Before coming to Northern New York, he served as Chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee for Harper’s Choice Neighborhood in Columbia, Maryland. At Copenhagen, he coached Pee Wee baseball and led a Webelo Den from Cub Scout Pack 60. Local area schools requested he speak on computers and finance to students at school career days.
Don served as board member and VP of the Copenhagen School Board for seven years. He also was a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals for the Town of Rutland. Don served on the board of the Watertown Chamber of Commerce, earning Director of the Year Award for two consecutive years.
After relocating to the Myrtle Beach area in South Carolina, he served on the Windsor Park Home Owners Board till illness prevented his participation.
Friends will remember Don as an avid golfer. This love of golf was shared with his family who now all play as well. He also enjoyed racquetball, swimming, kayaking and camping.
The Cleveland Funeral Home will be holding calling hours at 404 Sherman Street from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Wednesday, July 3, 2013. A Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church on Lynde and Thompson Streets, Friday, July 5, 2013.
Donations in lieu of flowers are requested to be sent to Hospice of Jefferson County, 1398 Gotham St., Watertown, NY.
