Elma Lydia Vetter, 57, of Watertown

Elma Lydia Vetter, 57, died Tuesday July 23, 2013 at the Samaritan Medical Center where she had been a patient since Thursday.

Surviving are her husband of fourteen years, Dean of Watertown; two sons, Travis and Ricky Bartels of South Dakota and one daughter Richelle Roterdam of South Dakota; one sister, Brenda Vessel of Brementon, WA.; five stepchildren; several grandchildren and "too many great grandchildren to count," along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her beloved parents Elmer and Maude Brozzo along with one sister, Maude Laura and her husband Everett Lamica of Chateauguay, and brother-in-law Thomas Vessel of Ogdensburg.

Elma was born in Gouverneur on March 21, 1956, the daughter of Elmer and Maude Brozzo of Natural Dam. She graduated from Heuvelton High School and was married to Dean Vetter on March 21, 1998 in Deadwood, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple lived in South Dakota for several years and moved to the Watertown area nearly seven years ago.

"Elmie", while stationed in Germany several years ago was proud to say she organized a club for battered women. She was proud of this accomplishment and throughout life, she always opened her heart and her home to those in need. She had a big heart and lived to help others.

Elmie or "Chocolate Grandma" as she was known, enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her family was her greatest treasure. She loved her dogs and the companionship they gave her.

She loved to play Bingo and go bowling. She collected wind chimes and loved to drive her cherished "Convertible Mustang."

Elmie loved a good time and to laugh and she loved to gather her family together to create lasting memories. She was busy planning the next family reunion at the time of her death. We will forever miss her smile, her laughter and her love of life.

Memorial services will be at a later date.

Arrangements are with the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.reedbenoit.com.
