Mr. Floyd M. Hatch, 87, of 19 Ober Street, peacefully passed away early Friday morning, April 5, 2013, in the comfort of his home with his loving family by his side.
Floyd was born January 2, 1926 in Watertown, the son of the late Floyd A. and Violet Morse Hatch. He attended Carthage Grade School, Immaculate Heart Academy in Watertown, and Utica Free Academy.
On February 8, 1944, Floyd entered the US Army, where he served with Company B 3139, Signal Motor Messenger Battalion during the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged on April 21, 1946.
He married Jane Endersbee on September 25, 1949 St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Massena. Jane predeceased him on October 21, 1994.
Floyd worked at Alcoa as a metallurgical technical assistant before going to work on the St. Lawrence Seaway project. He later went back to Alcoa, where he retired after many years of service. In addition, Floyd worked at the Post Office.
He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was a member of the American Legion Post #79, Gerald R. Roy AMVETS Post #4, and the Earl J. Santimaw VFW Post #1143. Floyd was also a member of the Disabled American Veteran’s NY Chapter 171 and the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge.
When Floyd was younger, he enjoyed bowling and he truly loved hunting, fishing, and spending time at his camp on Wolf Pond. He was an avid coin collector and a garage sale gentleman.
Floyd is survived by his nine children, Liz and Michael Barkley of Massena; Nancy and John Evans of Saginaw, MI; Elaine Eggleston of Massena; Joan and Herrick Bulger of Massena; Floyd and Julie Hatch of Massena; John and Cheri Hatch of Massena; Maureen Menard of Cato, NY; Sue Hatch of Massena; and Brian and Tina Hatch of Massena; his grandchildren, Aaron, Adam, Jonathan, Jeremy, Zach, Cherie, Chris, Tim, Kristan, Pat, Courtney, Shawn, Jordan, Chad, Charity, Ashlie, Josh, Justin, Letitia, Brian, and Matt; and 14 great grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sister-in-law and her husband, Mary and Dick Chase of New Castle, ME; his brother-in-law and his wife, Paul and Kathy Endersbee of The Villages, FL; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by a sister, Elaine Burnett and a brother, George Hatch.
Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday 1:00 PM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Massena, with Rev. Scott D. Fobare, celebrating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Massena.
Memorial contributions may be in his memory to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley, the American Diabetes Association, the Massena Neighborhood Center, or St. Mary’s/St. Joseph’s Memorial Fund.
