Frances S. Toper, 92, of 402 Arsenal Street, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2012, at her home under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County and her family.
Mrs. Toper was born September 12, 1919 in Watertown a daughter of Antonio and Santa Ferranti Marra. She attended local schools. On April 20, 1947, she married George Toper at St. Anthony’s Church with Msgr. Claude Sechi officiating. Mr. Toper died in 1970.
Mrs. Toper worked at Montgomery Wards before she became a clerk in the shoe department for many years in Empsall’s Department Store.
A communicant of St. Patrick’s Church and formerly of St. Anthony’s Church, Mrs. Toper was a member of the Altar Rosary Society of St. Anthony’s Church. She was a member of the AARP, Catholic Daughters and the Sisters of the Precious Blood.
Surviving are two sons and a daughter in law; George and Elaine, Eugene, OR and Gregory, Watertown, three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Three brothers, Anthony, Antonio and Rocco, four sisters, Angie Badalto, Mary Thacher, Grace Larabee and Josephine Tamberilli all died before her.
A funeral mass will be held Monday at 1 pm at St. Patrick’s Church with Reverend Donald Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
