Frances Terpstra, 81, of Natural DamNATURAL DAM – Frances F. Terpstra, 81, passed away Tuesday July 10, 2012, at the Kinney Nursing Home, Gouverneur. Calling hours will be held Friday, July 13th from 12:30 to 2:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with Rev. Beth Benham, pastor of the Gouverneur United Methodist Church officiating and burial in Maple Grove Cemetery, Richville. Frances was born July 5, 1931 in Friesland, Holland, the daughter of Ale and Wijbrigje DeJonge Klaver. She graduated school in Holland at the age of 14 and then attended finishing school. Frances married John Jan Terpstra on October 27, 1949 in Holland. The couple immigrated from Holland to Canada in 1951 and then moved to New Jersey in 1958 where they lived for ten years. In 1968, the Terpstra family moved to Richville where they operated a dairy farm on the Welch Road and also ran a farm on the Hyde Road in Macomb. The couple moved to Natural Dam in 1994, following retirement. John passed away March 24, 2012. Fran enjoyed bowling, making crafts, knitting, and crocheting. The couple also enjoyed traveling, including return trips to Canada and Holland, and spending time with their family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Frances had attended the United Methodist Church of Richville and the local PTA when her children were in school. Frances is survived by two sons Richard and Elaine Terpstra of Richville, Allen Terpstra of Gouverneur, three daughters Winnie and David DeLorenzo of Macomb, Mary McClure and her companion Dave Bates of Watertown, Shirley Tina and Michael Villeneuve of DeKalb Jct., 11 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters Tine Schiphof of Holland, Agnes Zwerver of Ontario, Canada, a brother Henry Klaver of Ontario, Canada, several nieces and nephews. Fran is predeceased by her husband John, a grandson Jason Terpstra, a sister and eight brothers. Memorial donations may be made to the Richville Vol. Fire Department or the United Church of Richville. |
