A Funeral Mass for Gary Patrick Ashley, 54, of Ogdensburg will be held on Friday (March 21, 2014) at 2:00pm at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rev. Scott Belina officiating.

Burial will be in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Calling hours will also be held on Friday from 11:00 am until 1:30 pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home.

Our beloved brother, passed into the Lord’s loving hands on Tuesday (March 18, 2014) at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center with his family by his side.

Surviving are his five sisters, Linda (John) Burrows of Ogdensburg, Ann (John) Berkman of Champlain, Doreen (Jim) Bennett of Rochester, Marilyn Hughto and Carolyn (Donald) McPherson both of Ogdensburg;  along with aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Robert W. Ashley and Shawn M. Ashley.

Gary was born on September 19, 1959 in Ogdensburg NY, the son of Norman J. & Mary (Kinch) Ashley. He was a graduate of Ogdensburg Free Academy, Class of 1978; a graduate of Canton ATC, Class of 1981; and a graduate of Potsdam State University in December of 1986 where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in History and received his teaching certificate.

Although he was unable to work due to renal failure, he endured dialysis treatment for many, many years and touched the hearts of those he encountered with his kindness and gentle ways. 

He was a very active member of Boy Scouts Troop 3 in his youth and loved camping, hiking, telling tall tales, talking about history and spending time with his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Ravinder Agarwal Renal Center 124 Ford Avenue Ogdensburg, NY 13669.
