Gerald D. Ramie, 75, of Ogdensburg


Funeral services for Gerald D. Ramie, 75, of Ogdensburg, will be held on Friday, July 12, at 11:00 a.m. at the UCC-First Congregational Church, 300 New York Ave., Ogdensburg, with Pastor Emeritus Walter Smith and Pastor David Hart co-officiating.

Burial will follow the service at the Ogdensburgh Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 11, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Frary Funeral Home, 515 Caroline St., Ogdensburg.

Mr. Ramie died on July 8, 2013 at his home. The family expresses appreciation to Dr. Seidman, Dr. Sangwon, and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley for their compassionate care during his long illness.

Suriving are his wife, Kay, at home; two daughters, Vicki Ramie Tripido of Pine Bush, NY, and Laurie Ramie of Hortonville, NY; three granddaughters, Kacy, Sarah, and Sydney Tripido of Pine Bush; one brother, James of Ogdensburg; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; a son, Thomas Gerald Ramie, on April 8, 1996; three brothers, Charles, Francis, and Richard; and two sisters, Barb Womack and Carole Woodside.

“Jerry” was born on February 24, 1938 in Ogdensburg, NY to George and Velma (Pinard) Ramie. He attended local schools and served his country in the U.S. Navy from March 8, 1955 to December 2, 1957, stationed with the 6th Fleet on an ammunitions ship in the Mediterranean.

He married Kay Leah Baker on June 18, 1960 at Notre Dame Church.

Jerry was employed by New York State for 36 years at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center, retiring as the last foreman of its Paint Shop on September 15, 1994.

Jerry was a charter member of the Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad and served as a Trustee at the First Congregational Church in Ogdensburg for many years.

He enjoyed traveling, Disney cruises, Syracuse University basketball, OFA football and basketball, the Seaway Festival, and reading.

Memorial donations may be made to the Thomas G. Ramie Memorial Scholarship at Ogdensburg Free Academy, in care of Washington Education Center, 616 Rensselaer Ave., Ogdensburg, NY 13669 or to the Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad.
