Gerald J. White, 81, of OgdensburgFuneral services for Gerald J. White, age 81 a resident of St. Joseph’s Nursing Home and formerly of Washington Street will be held at 11:00am on May 3, 2012 at St. John’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Robert Longbottom officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Ogdensburg Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday May 2, 2012 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mr. White died April 29, 2012 at the Claxton Hepburn Medical Center surrounded by his loving family after being stricken at home. Surviving is his wife Phyllis; two sons and their wives Gregory & Connie White of Ogdensburg, Scott & Melissa White of New Delhi, India; three daughters and their husbands Maureen & Richard Hoxie of North Carolina, Kathleen & James Amo of Ogdensburg and Jennifer & David Doty of Ogdensburg; a sister Carol Baildon of Ogdensburg; Grandchildren Les(Susan) Pribble of North Carolina, Nicholas & Ian Amo of Ogdensburg, Rebecca & Aaron Doty of Ogdensburg, Emma, Ellen& Elizabeth White of India; great-grandchild Silas Pribble of North Carolina; an uncle Douglas(Evelyn) White of Heuvelton; six step-grandchildren, several step great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews & cousins. Gerald was born on January 31, 1931 in Ogdensburg, NY the son of the late Gerald P. & N. Elizabeth (LaRock) White. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1949 and enlisted in the US Air Force from 1950 – 1953. He was stationed at Burtonwood Airforce Base in Burtonwood, England. In England he met Phyllis Hodgson and were later married on December 13, 1952 at the United Methodist Church in Ogdensburg with Rev. Clyde Sparling officiating. He was a member of the Lisbon Town Board, the Lisbon American Legion & a member of the VanHeuvel Masonic Lodge in Heuvelton, NY for many years. Gerald enjoyed golfing, traveling, and watching his children and grandchildren’s sporting events. He had a deep fondness for his dog Martha and was an avid NY Yankee fan. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, as a hard worker and a cornerstone of a family that will miss him deeply. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley, The American Diabetes Association or the Ogdensburg VFW.
