Gilbert W. Millard, 81, of Dayan Street, passed away Friday, May 10, 2013, at his home. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in Martinsburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 120 Lomond Court, Utica, NY 13502; or to the American Cancer Society, Memorial Processing Center, P.O. Box 7, East Syracuse, NY 13057. Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville. Gil is survived by six children and their spouses, Jerry and Laurie Millard of Lowville; Patrick and Carol Millard of Glenfield; Stephen and Mary “Martha” Millard of Lowville; Gary and Sherry Millard of Glenfield; Jane and Dennis Baker of Castorland; Lisa and Peter Kelley of Lowville; two sisters, Marion Potocki of Lowville; and Winifred Regetz of Boonville; 31 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his wife Freda, and his brother, Foster Millard. Gil was born on February 16, 1932, at home on the Rector Road, a son of the late Clifford J. and Mildred Elliot Millard. He attended country school on the Rector Road and Lowville Academy. After school, Gil worked in the woods, and then worked as a mechanic for Nortz and Virkler Ford, and at Farney’s Garage. On October 14, 1950, he married Freda J. McDonald at St. Mary’s Rectory in Copenhagen. Together with his wife, the couple owned and operated dump trucks and a log truck from 1955 until 1965, a moving business in Lowville from 1965 until 1969, and Gil worked for his brother, Foster Millard. The family owned and operated a dairy farm on Route 177 from 1969 until 1973. The couple owned and operated Gil’s Towing and Service Station in Lowville from 1973 until 1988. Gil also worked for Young and Wilcox in Lowville. Gil enjoyed restoring old tractors and visits from family and friends. Condolences may be made online at .
