Harold C. "Pete" Rabideau, 91, of Stockholm-Knapp Station Road


Potsdam -  Harold C. "Pete" Rabideau, 91, of Stockholm-Knapp Station Road passed away on November 6, 2013 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Harold was born on October 11, 1922 in Cumberland Head, NY, the son of William and Lena (Lawless) Rabideau.

He proudly served in the US Army Air Force during World War II as a tail gunman. During that time his plane was shot down and was a POW in Germany for 18 months.

He attended college in New York City and was employed by the Pentagon in Washington, DC for several years; he relocated to the North Country in 1971, where he owned and leased the Raymondville Building US Post Office. He was employed with General Electric as a Computer Technician.

He married Erma Preston Reed on September 6, 1968 in Annapolis, MD. He enjoyed hunting, golfing and loved taking care of his lawn, garden and apple trees. He was a member of the American Legion Post #925, VFW and past member of St. Raymond's Church.

Harold is survived by his wife Erma; 11 children, Jacqueline Jennings of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Daniel and Linda Reed of Stockholm, Damon and Barbara Reed of West Virginia, Denise and Sonny Mellot of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, Tena Allen of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Joanne Rabideau of Norfolk, Mary and Patrick McNulty of Norfolk, Celeste and Dale Planty of Norwood, Carl "Mac" Marie Reed of Maryland, Jeannie and Scott Williams of Stockholm, Lena and Larry Montuori of Maryland; 32 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters Martin Rabideau of Malone, Richard of California, Charles on Ontario, NY, John of Waterloo, NY, Leona Scharf of Malone, Laura Remmington of Parishville.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Roswell Rabideau, William, David, Floyd, Joseph, Norma, Betty, Jean and Wilda.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or CaringBridge Donation Processing Center, PO Box 6032, Albert Lea, MN 56007.

Friends and family may be received on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013 from 2:00 pm until the time of service at 5:00 pm at Phillips Memorial Home in Massena, with Pastor Lee Sweeny presiding. Interment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery, VA at a later date.
