Carthage - Harold (Doc) Sanderson, born February 4, 1934, son of Leon and Edith (Wells) Sanderson, died Sunday October 13, after short illness.

He was in the care of Hospice, Jefferson County.

He attended West Carthage schools and graduated in 1952. He joined the Army 1952-55 and was stationed in Germany. Harold worked many years at New York Airbrake, Watertown, NY.

In 1983 he started his college education, attending Jefferson Community Collage, Potsdam State and State University of Albany, receiving a master's degree in History and a CAS.

He was the author of “Whispers From the Past,” a source book of the Civil War. He was the creator of a database for the history of over 20,000 Civil War veterans, which can be found at the history department of Jefferson Community College in Watertown. For several years after college, he was an alcoholism counselor, until he retired.

He was also a life long (exempt) member of the West Carthage Fire Department.

Harold never married but is survived by two nephews, Charles Sanderson of Latham NY, Thomas Sanderson, Carthage; nieces Mary Brown of North Carolina and Joan Sanborn of Colorado, and several grandnephews and nieces. A grandniece, Lorraine Sanderson, is his executer.

Arrangements are with Lundy Funeral Home and it was his wish that no calling hours or services be held. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Carthage.
