Lowville – Harold W. O’Brien, 61, of Jefferson Street, Lowville, died Thursday, June 20, 2013 at his home, under the care of his loving family and Lewis County Hospice.
Calling hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2013, at the funeral home.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Dianne; three children, Danielle and D.J. Mosher of Hilton, NY; Harold “Bill” and Melissa O’Brien of Clay, NY; Jennifer O’Brien of Lowville; four grandsons, Justin and Jason Mosher, Colin and Keegan O’Brien; two brothers and two sisters, Robert O’Brien of Lowville; Doris and Kevin Morak of Lowville; Patrick and Patricia O’Brien of Lowville; Ingrid O’Brien of Findley Lake, NY; an aunt, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Harold was born on April 16, 1952 in Heidelberg, Germany, a son of the late William H. and Irma Schröder O’Brien. He graduated from Lowville Academy in 1970, and attended Jefferson Community College for one year. Harold worked at AMF in Lowville from 1970 until 1973.
On August 21, 1971, he married Dianne M. White at Lowville Baptist Church.
In 1973, he went to work for Lyons Falls Pulp & Paper, working there until 2001, when the mill closed.
In 2002, Harold went to work for National Gypsum in Delair, NJ, later transferring to Milton, PA, where he currently worked as a Project Engineer.
Harold was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville. He was one of the original members of Lewis County Search and Rescue, where he started as a driver, and later became an EMT. He was an exempt member of the Lowville Fire Department, which he joined in 1982. Harold was a past member of the International Brotherhood of Papermakers Union.
He enjoyed reading, collecting coins and technology. Harold enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his grandsons.
