Harry A. Clopman, 98 of MassenaHarry A. Clopman, 98 of Rt. 131 Massena passed away Sunday morning (March 3, 2013) at his home surrounded by his loving family and Hospice Care. Funeral services for Harry A. Clopman will be held today, Monday (March 4, 2013) at 2:00 pm at the Phillips Memorial Home with Rev. Judith Van Kennen officiating with interment to follow in Adath Israel Cemetery, Massena. Rotary Club Members are invited to attend the services as honorary pallbearers. Those wishing to honor his memory may do so with contributions to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley; 6805 U.S. 11, Potsdam, NY 13676 or the Massena Memorial Hospital Foundation at 1 Hospital Drive, Massena NY 13662. Surviving Harry is his beloved wife Rose of nearly 71 years. A son Joseph and wife Marilyn of Port St. Lucie FL, a daughter Miriam and husband Frank Catapano of Massena, three grandsons Andrew and his wife Astrid of Port St. Lucie FL, Mark and wife Johanna of Hamburg, Germany and Nathan of Port St. Lucie, FL and a great grandson Henry Charles Clopman. Two step granddaughters Kristian Labrada and Kathlyn Moore of Florida. He is also survived by a sister in law Rhonda Clopman of Rochester, three nieces and three nephews. Harry was preceded in death by a brother Simon, two sisters Rose Greenblatt and Goldie Finkelstein. Harry was born in Massena on December 19, 1914 the son of Louis and Rebecca (Landsman) Clopman. Following his schooling he entered the US Army and served during WW II. Harry served his country in the European-African Theater earning a Bronze Star and the Croix de Guerre with Silver Star Medal from the French Army. Harry was married to Rose Cohen in New York City October 5, 1942. Following his Honorable Discharge he returned to Massena where he continued his career in the furniture business. Harry owned and operated Clopman’s Furniture and Appliance and in recent years the store was operated by his son, daughter and son in-law. Harry was very active in the community, having the great distinction of being the last living Charter Member of the Massena Rotary and Past President, lifelong member of the American Legion Post # 79, VFW # 1143, and the Am Vet Post # 4. Harry was a member of the F & AM Masonic Lodge # 513, Past Worshipful Master and a member of the Media Temple Shriners. He also belonged to the Massena Elk’s Lodge # 1702.
