Helen E. (Brosnan) Mahoney, 97, of Ogdensburg & Morristown
Helen E. (Brosnan) Mahoney, age 97 of 533 State Street in Ogdensburg and River Road East Morristown, passed away (December 15, 2013) at the home of her daughter and son-in-law.
Funeral arrangements are with the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. There will be no calling hours.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Cathedral in the spring with burial to follow in the family plot in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Surviving are three sons, John of Mystic, CT, Thomas of Tampa, FL and Kevin of Syracuse; a daughter, Mrs. James (Anne) Frisina of Ogdensburg; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Robert (Marguerite) Pratt of Romeo, MI and Mrs. Richard (Mary) Hawes of Malone; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. John W. Mahoney; an infant son, David Casselman Mahoney; a sister, Phyllis Brosnan; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Edmund (Frances) Sheehan; a brother-in-law, James Mahoney; a grandson, James J. Frisina.
Helen was born on November 22, 1916 in Ogdensburg, NY, the daughter of Captain Harold and Maude (Murphy) Brosnan. She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and Miss Wallace’s Secretarial School.
She married Dr. John (Wells) Mahoney on June 4, 1942 at the old St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rt. Rev. Louis D. Berube officiating. They celebrated their 50th wedding Anniversary in 1992.
The couple lived at various naval stations during World War II while Dr. Mahoney served in the U.S. Navy Dental Corps. They later returned to Ogdensburg at the end of the war to operate their long standing dental practice.
Helen was a member of the St. Mary’s Cathedral Parish and St. John the Baptist Church in Morristown. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, listening to classical music, spending time at her camp on the St. Lawrence River and visiting with friends and family.
