Howard A. Pitkin, 79, of Park Street, died Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Fletcher-Allen Health Center in Burlington, VT.

Calling hours will be Friday, December 13 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Lawrence Funeral Home, Canton. Funeral services and interment will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.

Howard was born March 16, 1934 in Corinth, NY, a son of John and Mary (Swift) Pitkin. He was a graduate of Corinth High School. He served in the US Army. He later attended St. Lawrence University graduating in 1961, where he received his teaching degree.

Upon graduation, Howard, taught math at Canton ATC, Gouverneur Central School and for many years at Lisbon Central School. He also started and owned Pitkin Rubbish Removal Service.

On May Aug 13, 1983, he married Patricia Ewart at Christ Church in Morristown.

In addition to his wife “Pat," he is survived by two daughters, Michelle (Paul) Barbour of S. Colton, Kathleen Owens of Waxhaw, NC; two sons, Michael (Lauren) of Lisbon, CT and Jeffrey (Ellen) of Guilderland, NY; two step-children, Michael and Matthew Ewart of Ogdensburg; seven grandchildren, Paul, Alexandria, Justin, Melissa, Anthony, Adam, Samantha and a great-grandchild, McKenzie.

Howard was a life long golfer and avid hunter, belonging to the Stillwater Hunting Club. He was also a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Canton.
