James C. Turck, 79, of County Route 36, Carthage


CARTHAGE- James C. Turck, 79, of County Route 36, died on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at home with his family by his side and Hospice of Jefferson County.

He was born on August 19, 1935 in Croghan to Chester and Pearl Lomber Turck.  He attended school at the Father Leo Memorial School in Croghan.

He enlisted in the Army for 2 years, and then he served in the United States Air- Force for a total of 22 years of active duty military service as a Security Police Officer. He served in Vietnam. He was awarded the Air force longevity service award twice, December of 1959 and April of 1971.  Good Conduct Medal in December 1960; Air Force good conduct medal three times, December 1963, December 1966, and December 1969; Small Arms Expert Marksmanship in August of 1964; Volunteer Service Medal; National Defense Service; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; and Air Force Commendation Medal 1st Oak leaf Cluster in April 1971.

After he retired from the Military he worked for the New York Airbrake for 17 years, retiring in 1990.
He married Tamara Fauvelle on July 19, 1958.  They had six children; Jim and his wife Joan Turck, Watertown; Jeff and his wife Debbie Turck, Carthage; Brian Turck, Utica; Steven and his wife Kathy, West Monroe, NY; a daughter Karen and her husband Carl Andrews, Watertown; and a daughter Cheryl Spencer, Carthage.

He is also survived by two sisters Maryann (Gerald) Ritz, Rosemarie Bruce, a brother, Richard Turck, two sister-in-laws, Evelyn Turck and Margaret Turck.

He is also survived by 13-grandchildren and 8-great-grandchildren.

He is predeceased by six brothers, Bernard, Edward, Donnie, Robert, Ralph, Arthur and a sister Therese who died in infancy, a brother-in-law Robert Bruce and sister-in-law Emma Turck, a sister-in-law Nellie Turck and a sister-in-law Joyce Turck.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a New York Yankee fan; he would umpire baseball in Carthage and surrounding areas.

His request was to be cremated with no funeral services. A graveside service with full-military honors will be held in Arlington National Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc. located 500 State Street in Carthage.
