James F. Riley, 67, of 23729 Co. Rt. # 42, died Saturday, July 27, 2013, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica after a brave battle with failing health for the past 11 years.

Jim was born in Carthage on July 24, 1946, the son of the late Edward L. and Gertrude M. Disotell Riley. He married Doris M. Slate on June 1, 1975 in Antwerp. Jim graduated from Carthage High School and started work at Crown Zellerbach Corp. He worked as a machine operator and adjuster in converting, and also in the yard. He later earned certification as a NYS Journeyman Millwright, working until the mill closed (Fort James) in 1998 with 32 years of service. Jim earned his CDL and drove for Sears and P.E. Express until he retired in 2002 due to failing health.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a NASCAR fan. He loved the outdoors, walking in the woods and watching the wildlife around his home. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Doris M. of Carthage,a son: Robert James Riley of Carthage. 

He is predeceased by his parents, Edward and Gertrude Riley and a sister, Patricia Zehr.

Graveside services will be held at the family’s convenience in Hillside Cemetery, West Carthage.
