Carthage - James S. Seaman, 63, of 36058 State Rt. 26, died Sunday, August 18, 2013 in St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse, where he had been a patient for three weeks.

Jim was born in West Carthage on September 20, 1949, the son of the late James A. and Miriam J. Fickes Seaman. He was a 1967 graduate of Carthage Central High School and a 1970 graduate of Canton ATC. He married the former Cynthia A. Peto on August 24, 1974 in Springfield, OH.

Jim operated the family farm on Martin Street Road his whole life until selling the dairy cows in July of 2010. He was a program educator for the after-school program at Lyme Central School with the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County at the time of his illness. 

Jim was a member of the Grievance Committee for the Town of Champion, Board of Assessment Review.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy A. of Venice, FL; a daughter and her husband, Erin and Ronald Kidd of Englewood, OH; two sons, Jeffrey J. Seaman and his girl friend Nicole Jones of Hudson Falls and Greg and Stephanie Seaman of Rochester; three grandchildren, Braydon, Casey and Paige; a sister and her husband, Cathy and Roger Quackenbush of Land of Lakes, FL; Jim’s girl friend, Tracy Sanford of Carthage and her children, Benjamin and Brittany and several nieces and nephews.

A brother, John C. Seaman died on April 14, 1997.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, with the Rev. Al Dowker, pastor of the Honeyville Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Carthage.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be on Thursday from 4-7 pm.
