Jane R. Artz, 62, of Parishville, passed away May 9, 2012 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, NY. Jane was born January 28, 1950 in Potsdam NY to Leonard J. Sampier and Mardith (Bicknell) Sampier.

Jane was a Health Unit Coordinator at Massena Memorial Hospital for almost 20 years. She had taken college courses in Washington, DC, Plattsburgh State College, and graduated from North Country Community College in Saranac Lake, NY.

Before going to work at Massena Memorial Hospital, she worked for several years at the Potsdam Public Library where she developed a love of books. She always encouraged her family members to read through her many gifts of books.

Her life companion of 18 years, Steven Barrett, her son Raymond Artz Jr., a sister, Susan Farnsworth, and a brother Dale and his wife Donna Sampier survive Jane. She is also survived by her extended family: Steven Barrett Jr., William Barrett and his wife Susan, and Cory and his wife Darbie Barrett, two grandchildren, Colton and Ashton Artz, and three extended grandchildren, Riley, Rhece, and Raegan Barrett.

Jane was predeceased by her parents: Leonard in 1986; Mardith in 1996, a brother Brad in 2000, and a brother Gary in 2001.

Family and friends may call at the Seymour Funeral home in Potsdam on Friday, May 18 from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM. A funeral prayer service will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 2 PM at Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam.

If friends desire, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Potsdam Humane Society, 17 Madrid Ave., Potsdam, NY 13676, or to the Parishville Volunteer Rescue Squad, PO Box 571, Parishville, NY 13672.
