Joan Helen Collins (Rogers), 68, of ClaytonJoan Helen Collins (Rogers) formerly of Gananoque, Ontario, Canada passed away on Saturday, February 16th peacefully at her home in Clayton, NY. Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton on Saturday, February 23, from 2 - 4PM. There will be no funeral and burial is at the convenience of the family. Mrs. Collins was born in Kingston, Ontario, Canada on October 16, 1944, the daughter of Basil and Mary Hayward Rogers. She graduated from Gananoque Secondary School. A marriage to John W. Cocup ended in divorce. In 1981 in Brockville, Ontario she married Ferdinand I. "Bo" Collins and he died on September 12, 2009. While in Toronto she worked in retail at Eaton’s Department Store and then was a homemaker. She moved to the United States in 1976. She was a licensed real estate broker for Realty One Thousand and then for Coldwell Banker in the Thousand Islands region. Joan was an avid boater, gardener, animal lover and enjoyed many summers at her cottage on Grenadier Island. She was a true River Rat. She was an avid conservationist, and a proud member of The Nature Conservancy of Northern New York. Joan served on the Board of Directors for the Minna Anthony Nature Center and she was a member of the Antique and Classic Boat Society. Joan was blessed to have a lifetime of caring friends whose companionship she always cherished. She is survived by her daughter, Robin M. Colello, of Watertown; her three grandchildren, Nina G., Isabella P. and Charlie J. B. Colello who were the love of her life. She is also survived by her two brothers and their wives, Kent and Elizabeth Rogers, of Atlanta, GA and their children, Geoff, David, and Natalie, and Barry and Kathy Rogers, of Kingston, Ontario, and their children, Brant, Betsy, and Mark; and several cousins. Her granddaughter, Lucy A. Colello, left this world before her on June 8, 2008.
