Lowville – Joan P. Snyder, 89, formerly of East State Street, Lowville, died Wednesday morning, October 9, 2013 at the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility, where she has resided since March, 2010.

Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.

A memorial service at Trinity Episcopal Church, Lowville, with burial in the Riverside Cemetery, Copenhagen will be at a later date and time to be announced.

She is survived by her husband of over 69 years, Theodore C. Snyder; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Patricia Falton of Woodville, Paula and George Pontolillo of Mineola, Denise and Michael Pierce of Zionsville, Indiana; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is predeceased by her twin brother, Stephen Williams.

Joan was born on July 9, 1924 in Upper Corris, North Wales, a daughter of the late Ivor and Mae Griffith Williams. She attended private school in Wales and England and was a range finder in London during WWII.

On May 13, 1944, she married Theodore C. Snyder in Port Talbot, South Wales. After the war, the couple made their home in West Martinsburg, then moving to Lowville in 1957, where they raised their family. Over the years, Joan worked for Hills Department Store and Grants Department Store in Lowville.

She was an active member of the community as a member of Zenith Copenhagen Chapter OES, Current Topics, Women’s Federation, serving as Past President, Constable Hall Association, and the Old Forge Art Club.

She enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, square dancing and was a world traveler. However, it was her art that she was passionate about, whether painting a sugar shanty in oil, or landscapes in watercolor, and especially china painting.
