John F. George 77, of Massena
Massena - John F. George 77, of Massena, unexpectedly passed away June 17, 2013.
Born July 6, 1935 in Montreal, he was the son of the late Antonio and Phoebe Romeo Giorgi.
John married Alice I. Payette at Church of Nativity in Cornwall, Ontario on April 6, 1957.
John was a 1951 graduate of Chatelain Business College in Montreal and a 1953 graduate of Massena Central High School.
He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army Reserves in 1963. He was employed at Niagara Mohawk until his retirement in 1994. John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Surviving John F. George are his wife Alice, with whom he enjoyed 56 years of marriage; sons Michael (Suzan) George of Canastota, NY and David (Debra) George of Corona, CA; daughters Paula (Allen) George Turner of Peru, NY and Lisa (Randy) George-Burlingame of Raymondville; grandchildren Dylan and Delaney George of Corona, CA. Melissa Covey and her fiancé Justin Stricker of Murrietta, CA and Erika Covey and her fiancé Kevin Yelle of Champlain, NY.
John is also survived by a brother, Joseph (Ann Marie) Giorgi of Massena, a sister, Marie (Rocco) Martino of Montreal, his sister-in-law Georgette (Peter) Scheler of Lancaster, PA, his brother-in-law Gus Creazzo of Massena, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Dominic (Tommy).
John was a life member of the Massena Knights of Columbus #1141 and B.P.O.E # 1702 of Massena.
Calling hours for John F. George will be held at the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena from 4-8 pm on June 20, 2013. B.P.O.E Elks will meet at 7:15 pm and the Knights of Columbus will meet at the funeral home on Thursday at 7:30 pm.
A mass celebrating his life will be held at on Friday, June 21, 2013 at Church of the Sacred Heart, Massena at 12:00 pm with Rev. Donald J. Manfred presiding. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
