Massena - John M. Viskovich, 66, of Belmont Avenue, Massena died Saturday evening (December 7, 2013) at Massena Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient since Wednesday.

Family and friends are invited to call Wednesday from 4 - 8 pm at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena.

A Mass of Resurrection will be held Thursday (December 12, 2013) at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Church with Rev. Scott Fobare presiding. Interment will in Calvary Cemetery.

John is survived by his loving sisters and brother, Patricia Pellegrino of Massena, Kathleen "Kasey" Long of Elbridge, NY, Barbara Morrow of Massena and Stephen M. and his wife Kathy of Fayetteville, NY.

John is also survived by his many nephews and nieces, Jay, Jonpaul, Brian, Lynn, Jodi, Andrea and Heather, along with many great nieces and nephews.

John was born August 26, 1947 in Massena the son of Nicholas and Helen (McRae) Viskovich. He graduated from Massena High School. John was a graduate of Windham College, earning a Bachelor's degree in education. He later earned his Masters at SUNY Potsdam. John taught English at Massena High School for 25 years. He was an avid reader; especially any subject on history.

In spite of his physical disability, John greatly enjoyed riding his recumbent bicycle around town in the summer and driving his van around the countryside. He was a sports enthusiast, watching Massena high school football and hockey. John belonged to the Massena Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. # 1702 and recently joined the Massena Moose lodge.

Those wishing to honor John's memory may do so to Trinity Catholic Endowment Fund or the Massena Humane Society.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Phillips Memorial Home.
