Joseph L.S. “Moje” Cross, 19, of Akwesasne


Akwesasne – Mr. Joseph L.S. “Moje” Cross, 19, of 35 Kawenoke Apt. Road, lost his valiant and courageous battle with brain cancer on Saturday morning, January 26, 2013 at the Hospice Cornall.

He was diagnosed on November 13, 2009 and so badly wanted to live and beat the cancer.

Joseph was born October 31, 1993 in Worcester, Massachusetts the son of Jose Paulino and Ann Marie Cross. He graduated in 2012 from Salmon River Central School where he excelled in the sciences. He returned to Salmon River Central, where he was working on his Regents diploma in hopes of going to college to become a pharmacist. He loved playing lacrosse, swimming, playing computer games and reading.

A quiet and shy young man, Moje was a very good artist who enjoyed always lending a helping hand or watching horror movies.  Joseph recently enjoyed his trip to Orlando, Florida on this “Make-A-Wish” trip. Joseph attended the Mohawk Nation Longhouse.

Joseph is survived by his mother, Ann Marie Cross of Cornwall Island, Akwesasne; his father, Jose Paulino of Worcester, Massachusetts; three brothers, Alex Paulino and William Laughing, both at home; Brett Laughing of Texas; two sisters, Joan Paulino at home; Tonya and Darrow Clute of Akwesasne; and his maternal grandparents, Joan and James Coyer of Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Joseph is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins including Uncle John Cross and cousins, Sonia and Tony Paulino, Rosalie Jacobs, Tisha and Kristian Thompson, Tara and Brendon Tarbell, and Allan Jacobs.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Joseph William Cross in November 1980.

Friends may call at the home of Rosalie Jacobs, 18 Laughing Road, Racquette Point, Akwesasne, starting 4:00 PM Monday until 9:00 AM Tuesday.  Joseph will then be transferred to the Callahan and Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester, MA where calling hours Wednesday and Funeral Mass will be held Thursday.  Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Worcester.
