Justin R. Spencer, 38, of DexterJustin R. Spencer, 38, of 23129 Old State Road, Dexter, passed away at the Samaritan Medical Center late Sunday morning surrounded by his family. Justin succumbed to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, which he had been diagnosed with in March 2012. Born July 7, 1974, the son of James Richard and Ida Mary (Heath) Spencer in Rochester, N.Y. He graduated from General Brown High School in 1992 and served in the United States Army Reserves. He worked as a New York State Corrections Officer and for Jefferson Rehabilitation Center. Justin enjoyed movies, card playing, video games and spending time with his family. Justin is survived by: a daughter Kyla Justine Spencer, Watertown, Ida Spencer, Dexter, two brothers and their wives, James and Jacqlyn of Watertown and Kristopher and Lisa of Dexter; a niece Meghan and nephews Tristen, Lukas and Michael; many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. He is predeceased by his father on May 12, 2010. Funeral services will be Wednesday evening at 7:00 P.M. at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter. Calling hours will be 1 hour prior to the service. Following cremation burial will be in Dexter Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
