Funeral services for Katherine C. Rapin, age 87 of Brighton, NY and formerly of Ogdensburg will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 with a Mass to be held at Notre Dame Church at 11 a.m. with Rev. F. James Shurtleff officiating.  Burial will follow the service at the Notre Dame Cemetery.  

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home.  Mrs. Rapin passed away at her home in Brighton on Monday, November 25, 2013.
Surviving are her children and their spouses; Marikaye & Guido Gargione of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, Tricia & Steve Labuzetta of Rochester, Thomas & Linda Rapin of Margaretteville, New York,  William & Kim Rapin of Rochester, New York, Richard Rapin of Ogdensburg, New York, Deborah & Walter Sonnenfeldt of Rochester, Barbara Rapin-Levine & her husband Jonathan of Rochester, New York, Anne Marie & Josh de Cesare of Campbell, California and Amy Rapin-Moran of Penfield; grandchildren Silvana Gargione; Evan, Joel, Michael and Ava Labuzetta; Terra, Adrienne & Kate Rose Rapin; Erik, Nathan, Stewart & Angela Rapin; Andree Thibert, Alden & Abby Sonnenfeldt; Aldie, George & Jeffrey Levine; Sarah and J. Phillips de Cesare; Emma, Jack & Will Moran; brothers Richard Carello, Robert Carello & his wife Ann; Sisters Antoinette Hartigan, Terry Hibbard, Silvia Schaffer & her husband Joel; a sister-in-law Susan Carello and many nieces, nephews & cousins.
Katherine was predeceased by her husband of 35 years Alden A. Rapin in 1982; two brothers Larry Carello Jr. & James Carello; a sister Marie Thompson and a brother-in-law Eugene Hartigan.
Katherine was born on January 12, 1926 in Rome NY, a daughter of the late Illario Sr. & Rose (Trophia) Carello.  She graduated from Rome Free Academy and SUNY Canton ATC where she met Alden her future husband.  She then married Alden A. Rapin on August 31, 1946 at Notre Dame Church.  The couple raised their nine children surrounded by love and devotion to their religion.  She taught catechism around her kitchen table to generations of first graders for nineteen years, was the first president of the Parent Teachers Association at Notre Dame Elementary School, a Cub Scout Den Mother and was a key figure in the annual March of Dimes Mother’s March during the 1960s & 1970s, and an active member of the Knight of Columbus Auxiliary. 
Her love of music theatre enabled her devotion to Showtime Musical Review, Pro Musica Chorale and local community musical theater, where she often had a soloist role to include the leading role in “The Belle of the West” community theatre production.
After her husband’s death, she remained a widow until 2001 when she began her sunset marriage of eight years with Otto Failner.  The couple resided at the St. John’s Meadows in Rochester where she was a member of the chorale and an active member in the Spiritual Life Committee.
