LaVeda M. Taube, 81, of CastorlandCastorland - LaVeda M. Taube, 81, died peacefully and gracefully on Wednesday evening, December 5th at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. She was born June 14, 1931 in the Town of Croghan to Andrew and Nancy Leis Widrick. She attended Town of Croghan Country School and Beaver Falls High School. She married Ralph Taube on June 14, 1952 at the First Mennonite Church of New Bremen. They were members of the Croghan Mennonite Church for 12 years and became charter members of the Naumburg Mennonite Church in 1964. LaVeda was very active in a variety of church activities. She was a wonderful wife and caring mother, an excellent cook, an avid gardener and loved all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed her extensive collections of dolls and teddy bears, and travelling to see family in New York, Ohio, Ontario and North Carolina. LaVeda enjoyed family reunion trips: in 2002 they travelled to Williamsburg VA to celebrate her 50th wedding anniversary and in 2008 they travelled to Bald Head Island, NC for Susan and Frank’s 30th wedding anniversary. Her passion in later years was the Adirondack Mennonite Heritage Association where she served as a trustee for over 10 years and hosted the craft tent at the annual Zwanzigstein Festival (Z Fest). She is survived by her husband, Ralph; her five children, Larry (Ann) of Greensboro, NC, James (Sue) of Middletown, OH, Susan(Frank) McVeigh of Cary, NC, Terry (Debbie) of Cazenovia and Michael of Watertown; a sister, Loretta Zehr of Croghan; nine grandchildren and their spouses; and three great grandchildren. Member of the family want to extend a special thanks to the excellent and caring ICU nurses, doctors and staff who were involved in her care during her last 18 days at Upstate Medical Center. Visitation hours will be held Saturday, December 8 from 4-7pm at Naumburg Mennonite Church. Her Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM Sunday December 9, at the Naumburg Mennonite Church with the church ministry officiating. Burial will be in the Croghan Mennonite Cemetery.
